Future Students obtain their GED.

GED/Adult Education

Students complete their high school equivalency (HSE) following the General Educational Development (GED) format.

Future Students get career education and job training.

Career Education

Students get trades training, career skills, resume building, mock interviewing, digital literacy, and contextualized ESL.

Future Students learn ESL, parenting, and get their child ready for school.

Family Education

Parents and caregivers of young children improve ESL skills while learning to support their children’s cognitive and social-emotional development. Children receive early literacy and school readiness instruction.


GED/Adult Education for Future Students

Literacy Coalition uses the General Educational Development (GED) format to complete a High School Equivalency (HSE). The four subject tests include:

  • Social Studies
  • Language Arts
  • Science
  • Math

Literacy Coalition is here to help adults achieve their HSE. We offer in-person and online classes, with options available during the day and evening. Classes are available at a low to no cost, depending on eligibility. GED students are eligible for wraparound Social Service support.

Future Students learn how to write a resume, digital literacy, and workplace professionalism.

Career Readiness

Literacy Coalition offers Career Readiness services for adults. A set of comprehensive workshops that allow students to get career-ready by building their skills. Career Readiness covers:

  • Interview Prep
  • Digital Literacy
  • Creating LinkedIn profiles
  • Navigating Indeed
  • Workplace Professionalism

Literacy Coalition is here to help adults build a career path. Literacy Coalition offers Career Readiness Workshops in person at various community sites and online. Career Readiness students have access to one-on-one career coaching.

Career Training

Literacy Coalition offers Career Training services for adults. A comprehensive program that allows students to get trades training, career readiness skills, and contextualized ESL. Career Training services include:

  • Career Training for electric with a path to an apprenticeship
  • Career Training for HVAC with a path to employer
  • Integrated Education and Training (IET) for Commercial HVAC

Literacy Coalition is here to help adults build a career path. Literacy Coalition offers Career Trainings in person, and classes are available at a low to no cost, depending on eligibility. Career Training students are eligible for one-on-one job coaching and wraparound Social Service support.

Family Education for Future Students

Family Education services are designed to help parents and caregivers of young children enhance their English as a Second Language (ESL) skills and learn how to support their children’s cognitive and social-emotional development. Children receive early literacy and school-readiness instruction.

Parents learn how to:

  • Increase your child’s vocabulary
  • Get your child excited for school
  • Improve your child’s vocabulary and self-esteem
  • Use beginner ESL in their community

Children between 18 months to 5 years old learn how to:

  • Follow a school routine
  • Socialize with other children
  • Develop fine motor skills
  • Build early literacy skills

The Family Education program is 15 weeks long, offered in English and Spanish, and students are eligible for wraparound Social Service support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are our classes held?

We offer classes at community partner locations in Central Texas and online. Locations include HACA residences, Manor ISD, and others. For more information, fill out the Student Interest Form.

Do you offer classes in Spanish?

Yes! Literacy Coalition has Family Education, Career Readiness Workshops, and HVAC training in Spanish.

Can I participate in Family Education classes if my child in younger than 18 months?

Children under the age of 18 months are not eligible for classes. However, we would love to add you to our waitlist by completing the Student Interest Form.

Can I participate in Family Education classes if my child is older than 5 years?

Depends. If your child is 5 years old and not enrolled in school or will not be in school during the Family Education semester, they are eligible for classes. If your child is already attending school, they are not eligible.

How much are classes?

Classes are available at low to no cost, depending on eligibility. Eligibility depends on the student’s income, residency, household size, and the types of services they are interested in.

How long are classes?

It depends. Career Readiness Workshops are 12 hours. HVAC training is nine months. Electric training for an apprenticeship is 40 hours. Family Education classes are 15 weeks. Finally, GED classes are dependent on the GED topic and the student’s learning progress.

To participate in job training, do I have to eligible to work in the U.S.?

Yes. Job training classes are designed to help students obtain employment with a livable wage; therefore, all students must be eligible to work in the United States.
